has god approved of this? did he jump or was he pushed?
I remember when he was elected pope there seemed to be surprise that the opportunity to elect the first black pope or first pope from the 'new world' was not taken and a commentator (forget who now) said the church in South America and in Africa was doing well but the church in Europe needed more help.
I like Pope Benidict but John Paul the Great was a really tough act to follow
Did he know Jimmy Saville by any chance?
I must admit that when I first read "resigned", I thought it meant that he'd signed up for another term of office.
I reckon he must have been looking at the R&S section in answerbank and come to the conclusion that religion's a load of old nonsense.
Just said on the telly that he said he is very tired!
When he was chosen it was said they picked an older chap (of the already quite old chaps) because they needed a stop-gap between a "great" pope like JP2 - maybe he thinks he's done his bit and they've got an eye on a bright young thing (might not even be in his 70s!) to take over.

It's probably a bit like being Ed Milliband, or Michael Howard.

:)
Ok I reckon it's the illuminati's doing! (Not joking)

I don't understand why they always choose older men to be Pope - is there some age rule?
Are the illuminati anything to do with the green lizards
Haha ric ... Well kinda if you read David Ike. I'm not sure if I get the whole lizard people thing but I definately believe that the entire worlds politics are controlled by a very elite and evil group (illuminati)
Unsure why he has issues. I thought he just needed to be wheeled out for ceremonial occassions. When I recall seeing the unfortunate state of some past Popes .... well I guess no one can force him to endure it if he doesn't want to.
Don't get excited Ann-you won't be asked to take over. Although I'd vote for you x
says hes 86 and too old to carry on with it, seems reasonable if true.

Personally I couldnt care less , i have no time for religion and god etc anyway, even more so this hypocrite and most of the garbage him and the organisation he "heads" that fosters and perpetuates so many lies, myths, fairytales etc.

Try and imagine the skeletons in the cupboards of the Vatican, if only half were true based on the stories that emerge over the years..doesnt bear thinking about, the mind boggles
Perhaps he just wants to spend time with his family.

I wouldn't Brionon, I'm not a Catholic :)
Evedawn - I seem to remember a program (I think by Jon Ronson but don't quote me on that) where Green Lizards were mentioned and Peter Mandleson and a meeting in Switzerland - but this was quite a few years ago now
Yeah ric there's loads on the Internet about things such as this. Alot of tje internet sites seem a lot of nonsense but somd make a great deal if sense! i truly do brlieve the resignation is part of a bigger plan by the higher order
Of illuminati

It doesn't scare me though as I don't think there's
alot we can do about it.
Illuminati?

Are you wearing your tin-foil hat?
I think youre referring to the Bilderberg Group
