///On a walkabout in the capital's famous Martyrs' Square, Mr Cameron was greeted by friendly locals.///

I suppose he had to go that far afield to find somewhere the locals would be friendly to him.

I'm a lifelong Tory voter, not out of habit, but by choice, until the last G/election when I looked at all sides and decided there wasn't one of them that was worth a light.
As for Call me Dave, he just seems to have a permanently smug look on his face, so will not be getting my vote in future.

I dont't know if that is the reason for all the cuts but I would like to be able to conjure up all this aid from a country with supposedly no resources!!
Well the help he's offering will be delivered by our Police and Military who are resources we already have.

You may have a point though aog,

based on your thinking you could make even more police and military redundant

then spend the money you've saved on more meals on wheels or something.
No our cutbacks are because of the dire situation the previous government left us in!
Dave Cameron has even more ambition than Blair to sort out the ills of the world. Only today he has promised to spend more on Defence from 2015 while at the same time other departments are being cut back.

You have to wonder why our PMs get involved in trying to put the world to rights when we have some many problems at home.
Algeria and Libya have lucrative oil operations and it is worth getting on a the good side them. We are world leaders in oil exploration and a friendly guesture of a bit of aid could see juicy contracts coming our way.
I wonder how Britain has ever benefited financially after we have got involved in someone else's war. They usually turn out to be no-go areas for the rest of us. Even Cameron was well protected when he went to Libya and he made sure he didn't go to Bengazi where he would have been slaugtered.
