Once again it seems that some wish to remove the words Mr & Mrs from official forms and paperwork in case they offend the transgender community.

Morning Mr Jack :+)
You know what? I don't actually care what other people want to call themselves. My name is "first name" "second name", I am "first name" to my friends and my title is "Mrs" them my late husband's name. Anybody who doesn't like it needn't talk to me or write to me.
I will talk to you woofgang, because they are my sentiments entirely - I do not care what other people want to call themselves just do not inflict it on me.
Uh huh...this is one of those Daily Mail stories published specifically to stir up its readership.

Note - this is one proposal of a number which is being out forward. The council is not planning to make these changes.

And even if these proposals are voted in - how does this affect anyone negatively?

Family Name: POTTER
Forename: HARRY
Gender: M/F/T (delete as appropriate)

Pretty straightforward.
Until you get to "partners" name, which I duly cross out and put husband sp.
As long as no one calls me 'Ms' I really don't mind, I hate Ms.

/// I expect it does to those familiar with such names. ///

Any idea how that could work?

Most Punjabi Sikh first names such as "Sandeep, Gurdeep, Kuldeep, Hardeep, Mandeep", "Surjeet, Gurjeet, Kuljeet, Harjeet, Manjeet", "Harpreet, Gurpreet, Jaspreet, Kulpreet, Manpreet", "Prabhjot, Harjot, Gurjot, Jasjot" and "Sukhjinder, Bhupinder, Jasbinder, Parminder, Kulvinder, Harjinder" are unisex names and equally commonly given to either gender
Morning, Mr sunny-dave :o)

I am quite happy being a 'Miss' and look forwards to the day when I can claim to be 'Mrs'.........which will be the day the sky falls, in according to some.
//As long as no one calls me 'Ms' I really don't mind, I hate Ms. //

Me too. It smacks of sour women. I think it's short for 'misery'. ;o)

They seem to manage quite well.......usually with the insertion of 'Kaur' or 'Singh'to denote the difference.
Most Punjabi Sikh names consist of a first name, middle name and surname. The middle name is Singh for a bloke and Kaur for a woman. That's how it works.
Must type faster - apologies Jack.
None, necessary, BM.

I doubt if either of us were surprised that the OP was ignorant of that fact. :o)
Sikh names are a bad example, as said, but what gender is someone called Marion or Evelyn or Shirley? John Wayne, born Marion Morrison, Evelyn Waugh, and the wrestler Big Daddy, who was christened Shirley, all seem to have been men!
A boy named Sue?
Lesley and Lindsay and Alex as well
When registering at the hospital on my first visit there, the receptionist asked me if I had a partner. I said no I'm not in business with anyone, but I do have a husband. She said they have to ask as it may offend someone who isn't married! Excuse me, but it offends me when someone refers to my husband as my partner!
aog, I usually use first and/or last names, which is much more common since emailas came into being. The introduction Dear... seems to have been widely replaced by Hi, Jno! (Or on AB, Welcome Back Jno.)

But the real gist of your question is what the council should call me. And they can call me what they like, as long as it's something I recognise so I can respond.
foreign names like leslie/lesley i find confusing....
