Can anybody tell me what time this debate will start during the night? I'm told 1.30am (GMT +1) but maybe that's not the exact time the two candidats meet each other. I don't want to set alarm for then if the debate starts an hour or two later.

Thank you very much bibblebub, I'm an hour ahead so can set alarm for just before 4am. It's a 90 minute debate but will no doubt be falling asleep with Romney's zingers very early on... THank you.
looking more thoroughly I think that there might be only a 5 hour difference so that it's at 2am GB time - you can find NY time by using google https://www.google.co...598&biw=1920&bih=1040
hope you see this 'cos I hate to have made you miss the 1st hour
Both the Sky News and CNN channels have programmes on from 1:00 a.m Looks like the main event kicks-off at 2:00 a.m.

Seen it and will look into this: yes I'd have been p***d off missing the first hour!!!LOL
thank goodness you've seen the subsequent replies - i do apologise for my blunder
Anyone would think only two people were standing for election.

Isn't it 7 or 8 people?
No just the 2 of them, you only get 7 or 8 taking part when it's the individual party debates to select their candidate. If an independent (neither Democrat no Republican) decided to stand then they can take part and I think that the last time that happened was with Ross Perot in 1992.
Think I'd trust Obama before Romney whose eyes are too close together lol
The big question... was the debate worth getting up for so early? Brief highlights suggest that it was quite pedestrian, no stand-out moments.
Well, considering that the people on both sides have been scripting this open debate for the past few months there weren't any surprises. As was said on open discussion before the event, what you take away from this debate will not be decided by what is said during the debate, but what is said after it by the media. As I see it Obama is for the people and Romney is for the rich. The common man pays a federal tax of 35% and the super rich ie the banksters and the heirs of rich dynasties only pay 15%. 14% if you are Romney and you can offset your donations to charity
Obama is for the people? Define the people. by the way you have written I assume you are a lefty and mean the poor? Please correct me if I am wrong.

NB, in the US I think you will find there are many things (incl Charity) that can be offset against tax. Its the way their system works. In a way ours works similar but in reverse. You sign a form and the charity claims the tax if you are a tax payer. No difference in the end. But then of course that wouldn't support your left rant would it?

I got up and saw the debate; that's just me I prefer watching things live when I can. No surprises and a very polite debate. Two different ways of seeing how an economy can grow.
Was the "Rottney" deliberate or a typo, so hope it was deliberate! I love to entertain myself winding up the Mutt supporters on the DM website, they're so aggressive to any even neutral comment for Obama!

It was deliberate, zebo.
Well youngmabog you seem to have seen straight through me. I only offered my opinion, and I didn't think I was having a rant. I apologise if I have upset your obviously delicate sensabilities. The American middle class will soon become 'the poor' if Romney and all his friends win. If they really wanted to help their country they would be investing heavily in the people of America. Trying to create jobs and help the economy. Instead the gap widens between the very rich and the ordinary middle class (soon to be very poor) citizens.
Will you be waving the flag of freedom when Rick Jones manages to push through the nullifcation program he is working on in Florida?
