Such a shame for the poor guy. It must have been a gut-wrenching decision to have to make, although I do support him.

A shame for the guy :( , but as the doctors have said it's for the best in the long run.
I wonder how much insurance he will get?
I could never understand how his heart stopped beating for so long and he didn't get brain damaged - amazing.
So sorry to hear this. He was really lucky to have survived his cardiac arrest and obviously has taken the advice from the specialists albeit not what he had hoped for.
He is still a member of my Euro Champion Blackpool Squad on FIFA11, mighty Blackpool have won the premier league 4 yrs on the spin, Muamba a mainstay of the squad.

Meanwhile............yes, such a shame, nice chap by all accounts.
As someone said on Twitter: its a miracle that he has been able to retire but if he was allowed to play on I very much doubt that any company would insure him.
I hope that he'll have a great future
sad as he was a very promising talent....but at least he walked away with the rest of his life in front him....and i wish him luck x
Yes a great shame but as others have said, "it is for the best".

Much better for him to have a life (one which he nearly lost) away from the exertions of kicking a ball for 90 minutes.

Perhaps he could become a soccer presenter on TV?
// Both Muamba and Bolton will benefit from insurance payouts to cover the player’s loss of income and the club’s loss of a £5 million-rated asset.
Bolton manager Owen Coyle and chairman Phil Gartside are open to Muamba remaining at the club in an ambassadorial capacity or, should he wish, taking the first steps towards a coaching career. The club have stressed that they are determined to provide whatever assistance Muamba requires, whether he chooses to remain in the game or to continue his accountancy studies. //
An eminently sensible decision.
I think its very sad but the right decision.
there are probably thousands of people across the planet daily who have to give up their job because of illness, whats the big deal with a footballer ?
Fair comment baz. My thought is what will he do careerwise now(as with a most other fotballers)?
As already stated he'll get an insurance payout, it will be a seven figure amount.

He wont be poor
