It's the going rate. I cannot speak for the quality of their work because I've literally never seen any of their programmes. However, as Jonathan Ross proved when he moved to ITV on an equally lucrative contract, the market dictates these salaries.

I don't think ANY of them are worth that much money.
|
|
No they are not worth that amount, but there is no need to call a person "an absurd idiot" just because one doesn't like that person.
I personally also don't like Alan Hansen as he comes across as having a vast self importance attitude, whereas I quite like Gary Lineker because he seems pleasant enough.
But one has to ask do we need all these sports personalities mouthing off almost a hour before a match starts, then during half-time and once again after a match has finished?
It is just the same during the news broadcasts, they have two news readers, a sports reporter and a weather forecaster, all of which could be done by one news reader.

Hansen's famous "Manchester United will not win anything with a team full of Kids" puditary proves he is an absurd idiot. But there have been other examples, including Suarez this season, which reinforce my view that he is a waste of space.

It sounds like an anti Liverpool rant rather than a BBC issue gromit.
But I take your point about their worth.
Yes AOG I too would rather watch the action than listen to their clever after the event chat

On a earlier thread, I posted my realisation that at today's values no one is worth £1million+. The differential between the average wage and that is self evidently too great, and means some are grabbing more than their fair share of the wealth in the economy. But the present system means some can demand and get it. Maybe one day someone will come up with a more equitable system that works well, and folk'll look back at what we do now with horror and say how primitive it all was back then.

Hansen was a great player for Liverpool. Not anti-Liverpool at all.

I stand corrected Gromit

However, you could argue that if the so called players on the field are getting vast amounts it would equate with the industry.
But it still stinks all this obscene amount of money being lashed out.
|
|
Why have you chosen these two ?
Why not 'Will i am' for instance ?
If he deserves what he gets, then so do Hansen and Lineker.
|
|
i don't think any of them are worth this sort of money.
|
Probably because those two are in the top three, Mike-T . . .

don't care for Linekar, Norton, Evans, Hansen, indeed the only person i consider was worth his weight in gold, is David Attenborough.

I have never watched will i am. I had never heard of him until quite recently. I posted Lineker and Hansen because they are the two that irritate me and my licence fee pays them vast amounts of money (hope that doesn't wake up rebelsouls).

Must agree whole heartedly but one cannot blame the recipients if the money is there why not grab it, why else do you think the English league attracts so many foreign players at the expense of our home grown youngsters?
But then this method of paying for the most highly skilled doesn't work in industry, thanks to the Unions who fight for equal pay except for themselves.
One can be the best craftsman of any other, but still gets paid the same as the worst one.

Sounds like jealousy to me.
|
|
not jealous of these twits, just irritated i have to pay a load of money for these people.

I think the anomaly is with the word 'earn'. Do they really earn that kind of salary or do they simply negotiate it? Some may, some may not - and in my opinion G Norton does not earn the 'obscene' sum!
