Mobility scooters

Isn't it now time that before one can become an owner of one of these vehicles, they first need to go through the procedure that a disabled motorist needs to go through before acquiring a Blue-Badge?

Some of these scooters look more like a smaller versions of quad bikes, and are being increasingly used as a convenient A to B vehicle for able bodied persons.

I recently saw one driven on the pavement, towing a small hand made trailer behind it.

no I dont, for a lot of people with mobility problems they are a godsend.

if you want to 'health' test mobility scooters, then why not 'ability' test bicycles or a 'skill' test for operating a petrol lawn mower.

The irony is I sold my car today and will be getting one shortly. BTW they are meant to go on the pavement.

Why would an able bodied person go to the expense of buying one of these? It riles the life out of me that people do not understand that many disabled people have hidden disabilities.

1. the picture of the large backside is not even on a motorscooter so really does'nt have anything to do with this story.
2. AOG's point about seeing one pulling a trailer - perhaps they had to get a load of shopping - I have not seen anything that states you cannot pull a trailer.

Typical selfish OAG. He wants to restrict people getting a mobility scooter just because he does not like them.

For many, they allow the person to carrying on living independently without having to rely on social services.

We all know that, but what I am saying that before one is authorised to drive on, one should apply for the right to do so.

Anyone with bona fide mobility problems would find no difficulty in obtaining such authorisation.

Incidentally I agree about the bicycle ability test but how many petrol motor mowers have you seen travelling down the pavements?

I often go onto the pavement to turn round otherwise the lawn edges dont get cut, I have a full U.K. driving licence, but no insurance for the mower.

Yet another prime example that one doesn't have to post only on Muslims, blacks, or even homosexuals issues to attract insulting Anti-AOG comments from the usual crew.

And incidentally, I am in my rights to make a personal comment on such an issue as this, since I too am disabled and also an owner of both a large mobility scooter as well as a folding one that I place in the boot of my car for shopping.

Perhaps an apology is now in order Gromit?

I've had to smile at this thread as I have a mobility scooter (and a blue badge).
It has an all enveloping clear canopy and some of my neighbours refer to it as the pope-mobile. :)
