Is this not one of the most abominable and disgusting practices to be introduced by a Islamic-dominated parliament?

Sp1814, My statement re. silent muslims was a way of questioning why muslims are silent. A person can say as much by remaining silent as they can by speaking.
jom

i suspect what you mean is that you haven't heard any muslims speak out.

How do you know that equates to muslims being silent?
Excuse me whilst I leave the room to throw up.
Zeuhl, OK, Not noisy enough to be heard by me. Let me put it another way, I have heard muslims on the media expounding on many subjects but apart from 9/11 I've not heard anything at all.
Well I've not seen any Vegetarians on the media 'expounding' about terrorism etc but I'm not assuming they're for it.
Maybe it depends on the topic.

I believe The Muslim Council of Britain or whatever they're called regularly condemn terrorism, honour killings etc to the extent that the media tend not to bother repeating them.

so far as stories such as this OP maybe they don't want to dignify them with a reply.

After all, one wouldn't expect the Archbishop of Canterbury to be on the media every week rebutting the latest deluded ideas from some mad christian evangelist in North Carolina
Zeuhl, Strangely enough now that you mention it neither have I. Do you suppose it is because they are straw men?
Do they do anything though?
I have read the DM report, the report in Al Arabiya and can see no evidence that this is in fact going to be law in Egypt.
I strongly suspect this is a hoax to further discredit the current Egyptian government.
hc, you are probably right about the hoax but it is strange that the subject is an issue with some muslims.

/// An apology for your error would be courteous, AOG. ///

Yes I agree I did make a mistake for which I apologise, although I still think that your post should have been removed also,

But having said that I am still waiting for some apologies for being accused of reacting to Daily Mail lies, when it has been proven that more examples of this news story have been reported by other news outlets apart from the Daily Mail's.

Still even it it is too much to ask for an apology from some quarters, it is refreshing to see that some kind of a sensible debate now appears to have taken place over this news item.
AOG, //I still think that your post should have been removed also,//

What absolute nonsense! It was very clearly a joke. Remember those?

Thank you for the apology.
Zeuhl. All it would take is a British cleric to say that what is condoned in the middle east, is against the Quaran, and it would break wide open. To my knowledge it has never happened.

To my understanding, it took years of coercement, by all sides, for the Muslim Council to issue those condemnations.

The reason they aren't reported now is they issued the statement and shut up.
By the way, France permits someone to marry a person who has been dead for months. They don't even require them to have been formally engaged or to have announced any formal plan to marry. They don't, however, expect the corpse to be present at the ceremony or the bride or groom to have sex with their new spouse to consummate the marriage.

That seems very strange to me Fred, it could prove to be wide open to all kinds of legality problems.

Have you any details on this?
Ok I want a nice dead french millionaire to marry
I think that was some time ago. ^ The pregnant girl friend of a French soldier killed in action(was it in Algeria?) was allowed to 'marry' him.
Yes, AOG, hm has given a link to one such. The one I read in France concerned a woman who had been cohabiting with a police motor-cyclist. He was killed on duty. She was not entitled to his pension or other benefits which his widow would have had. She applied for permission to marry. The application has to be approved by someone quite high up; I seem to recall some department in the President's office was involved. I got the impression that, notionally, it required the President's approval which could be given by his agent such as the Prefect.
The point of this is financial and practical and not entirely a romantic one.

Thank you hc4361 and sandyRoe seems quite acceptable in those two examples, but I still think it could lead to legal complications, especially where the deceased family is concerned.
