Tonight at 9pm on BBC Channel 3 a 21 year old guy says that after having a stroke he woke up to find his sexuality had changed. Before the stroke he was an avid rugby playing hetrosexual but that changed overnight to becoming gay and the loss of all his rugby pals.

If the brain is capable of being modified by rearranging the circuitry where does that point to in future research?

strokes happen to people of all ages for a myriad of reasons, the brain is a complex organ.
He is Anne it's unusual but sadly not that unusual.

I have had the misfortune to have had both my parents suffer strokes in the last year and have seen the inside of to many stroke wards!

Mostly it is older people and it is quite startling the recoveries that people can make from stroke - particularly in my Mother's case thankfully - going from a golfball sized bleed and intensive care to what I would say was a 95% recovery in about 6 weeks!

However I have seen some quite young people in there one in particular with locked in syndrome hardly able to do more than blink.

I guess the one lesson I learn over the last year is not to make any assumptions about stroke
Strokes can happen at any age. It is less frequent in the young but unfortunately do happen.
Sub arachnoid haemorrhage from a congenital aneurysm (Berry aneurysm).............not that uncommon in the young adults.
^^^^^

my sister was 35
im not saying the boy hasnt had a stroke!
Hmmm there are several International Rugby players that are openly gay.
sp // .. I think we'd be jumping ahead of ourselves if we took this chap's word for it that he had no sexual feelings for men prior to the accident. //

It would also be wrong to assume he was lying, just because it avoids drawing uncomfortable conclusions about the ability of peoples sexuality to change.

There are many cases of people having strokes and finding that their personalities changed. Even some of those who had heart transplants have faced changes to their personalities. What is scary is that in the end future research may find that our 'self' is nothing more than the function of a 'circuitry' you describe.
I think it proves there's a cure out there, just hope he can be turned back to normal.
I don't think there is a cure for being gay!

Not normal Messi-10 just more common
The obvious question no one has asked thus far is if this case turns out to be scientifically proven (whatever that may be) would it not also mean a gay Rugby player (or any other homosexual, for that matter) be susceptible to changing to a heterosexual after a trauma of some sort? Or, does it only work in the politically acceptable direction?
And why is it not perfectly reasonable for people to shift between the two... I fancy him... I fancy her... I fancy her...I fancy him... I am not so sure everyone is as fixed as it seems..
JJ, sounds wonderful, why am I not tempted?
Clanad...LOL
