Should Category 'A' prisoners be allowed to marry, no matter what their sexual preferences may be?

/// a homosexual crook's mum wrote to inmate magazine Inside Time to get the go-ahead. ///

/// 'My son is currently held as a Category A prisoner and has expressed a wish to "marry" (in a civil ceremony) another male Category A prisoner who is in the same jail,' the concerned woman wrote. ///

I wonder where they will spend their honeymoon, in an 'Open Prison'?

I think you'll find that it is student protesters guilty of violent disorder (not the nice ones) who are included. I have no sympathy whatsoever for any Cat A prisoner, unless of course they really weren't guilty.
I expect he's just got his gaydar on, Lottie!
seems little point in it, straight after the ceremony they would be taken to seperate prisons and kept apart until release. I suppose if one was released first he could visit the other one, but as category A they would have to put up with 'closed visits' behind a glass screen.
It's not about sympathy though Craft, surely. It's about realising that they are being imprisoned - which is the punishment. I don't think they are asking for sympathy - just if they can get married. It would just be vindictive surely to stop them for any reason. It doesn't affect anyone else.
Spent time in a catagpory A prison have you craft to judge how deserving anyone is of being there? You're entitled to your opinion, which is of course what a Govt who punishes political prisoners by tarring them all as a 'danger to the public' wants you to do. I can however tell you from bitter experience if you take a young lad whose got a bit hot headed at a rally ( and I'm not talking about me, just people I have observed) and incarcerate him in a catagory A prison you will end up with a monster, and that benefits no-one, especially not the society it claims to be protecting. Save the Cat A status for people who really deserve it, the child murderers, peadophiles, serial killers, don't make it about a kid with ideals who can't yet handle himself.
Quite Eddie. So why not let them get married. I can't see any point in it, but I can't see a problem either.
So they would be best off not to marry then, and enjoy their moments in the showers....
Probably DT. LOL.

too late for this couple - by the very act of having requested leave to marry as required by the relevant prison code, they will have drawn attention to themselves and end up being separated.

There's something else - if gay prisoners enter into a civil partnership or (in three years time get married), then they will enjoy the same rights of succession etc that straight prisoners enjoy.

Marrying isn't all about love, there's a whole raft of legal rights that straight prisoners enjoy that should be extended to gay ones.

/// What exactly is your question? ///

I thought that I had made that perfectly clear, but I will repeat it just for you.

"Should Category 'A' prisoners be allowed to marry, no matter what their sexual preferences may be"?
Agreed sp. So there is a point in it. Fair comment.
Straight answer aog

Yes
I'm not actually sure any prisoner in a category A prison should be allowed to marry, gay or straight. I have some sympathy with craft's posts although can also see a logic to Nox's as well. If prison is the removal of your privileges of freedom that most people in society enjoy then to me that would also include the right to marry. However, Nox raises a good point about breeding monsters from people who might with some compassion still prove themselves to a decent member of society in time.

I am very undecided either way.

/// AOG, Why are you constantly finding news items about Gay people? ///

Because i am always being accused of also posting news items regarding Muslims, Blacks, money related news items, footballers etc accused of using offensive words, Patriotic items, dislike of Olympic uniforms, support for our troops, my opposition to hand-wringing liberal lefties, using Daily Mail links etc, etc,.

In fact because I am always being accused of posting on any news item, in any newspaper, or of just being around.

However it is interesting to note that you feel sorry for those villains, rapists, murderers and other savages, that have to live in the harsh conditions of category 'A' prisons, while at the same time showing more concerned about the subjects that I post on.

Legal rights, are fully laid out in 'Civil Partnerships', whether they take place in a house of worship, a register office, a stately home on board ship or on a beach in the tropics.

So what is this need to get 'Married' all about?
How will gay marriages affect you, personally, AOG ?
Lottie, AOG is posting on the subject of gays because today is his day off from posting about muslims, blacks, money related news items etc etc
China you must be a Libran?
""Should Category 'A' prisoners be allowed to marry, no matter what their sexual preferences may be"?"

As China pointed out, there's a legitimate question to be raised over whether they ought to be allowed to marry at all, but I think to answer your question, the issue of whether prisoners should be allowed to marry or not should have absolutely nothing to do with their sexual orientation. So if heterosexual Category A prisoners can marry, so should homosexual ones. If they can't, then neither should homosexual ones.

What do you think, AOG?
