She says she was hounded and bullied out of her job for being pregnant. Well I'm sorry but nothing can justify such an obscene amount, especially when it comes out of the health budget. It's disgusting, it should only be enough to cover lost earnings and no more. I would welcome anyone to call me names and bully me if I knew there was £4.5m at the end of it!

Where would we be without your cheery contributions to the site, dave?

Here's the link for people who might not know what you are talking about...

That's REAL money can someone instruct me how I can get preggies.

W Ron.
doesn't seem to be in my paper, oh well. it's a stupid sum of money, no one warrants that payout.
It's not her fault, it's the fault of the lying, conniving, incompetent, NHS Trust who sacked her...................
"the judge's decision on the compensation .....[was]... based on very complex and lengthy calculations"

so who are we to argue ?
That's one hell of a remittance for her family in Poland!
an NHS trust plotting among themselves to get rid of a doctor who became pregnant?

They could recoup some of the money by getting rid of these idiot plotters.
5 year harassment campaign, False allegations against her, repeatedly suspended...

'The claimant has lost her role and status. She is never going to return to work as a doctor, a profession which she cherished together with all the status that brings with it.
'In our view, simply undergoing those experiences with all the unpleasantness, anxiety, worry and fear that it caused the claimant amply justify an award for injury to feelings.'

I think 'injury to feelings' is an understament!
Well, I think she deserved the compensation. The largest part was in exemplary damages. In other words the judges thought that her treatment and the behaviour of senior doctors and the medical director were so appalling and inexcusable that the the figure should be high enough to act as a deterrent in the future.

A top doctor reduced to a complete wreck by a bunch of idiots.

The sad thing is that the tax payers will effectively be paying it.
What should happen is that the morons who were responsible should be forced to make recompense.
I wonder what the OP is sorry for...?
I'm ver dapointed that nobody has yet made a comparison to the compensation paid out to a soldier er sorry hero - injured in Afghanistan.

I thought that was a site rule when discussing any large compenstaion payment
Oh yeah...forgot about that Jake.

You seriously think that 5 years of harassment wouldn't have a serious emotional and psychological effect?
It says that spurious allegations were made against her - if so, she's entitled. Unfortunately.
here you go lord elpus, fill yer boots.

If she was a nurse she would be lucky to get 5k. In no way should a simple doctor be getting millions.

What is it with this country. If your phone gets hacked or your a doctor and someone calls you names you get milllions and are set up for life.

RIP UK
I'm sure bullying is a terrible thing and the offenders should be 'brought to book' and some form of compensation awarded to a victim. Now remind me again, how much does an insurance company value, say, losing a limb ? Is it reasonable to compare that with compensation for staying where you are being bullied ?
