Interesting to note that 'Poverty' heads the list.

Did they pillage the supermarkets for food to feed their poverty stricken families?

No it was the free 'big tellies' that attracted them.

They may be stupid, but not that stupid.

A 50inch TV is worth more than a 5lb bag of spuds. If you are going to get nabbed for stealing, then at least make a decent job of it. You could buy more food than you could carry on the re-sale of a big telly.
// Policing - 85% //

The Police were lying about the shooting and there were eye witnesses who told what really happened. The community were angered by the attempted cover up. I do not think the reaction would have been as violent if the police had instantly admitted it was a cock up and apologised to the dead man's family.

As it was, the police lies quickly unravelled the rioters initially attacked the police. The looting was an after thought when the police retreated.

All the other riots were copy cat incidents by young criminals.

/// All the other riots were copy cat incidents by young criminals.///

Since they were all criminals then surely that should read,

All the other riots were copy cat incidents by 'other' young criminals.

I realise nothing will ever convince you otherwise, steve.5 so I won't waste any time on it.

Not too hard to fathom out. Moral decadence has been on a downward slope ever since corporal punishment was outlawed in schools. Now the youth think they can get away with anything.
>Shooting of Mark Duggan - 75%

While that may be true withing his local area I bet most of the people who rioted in other areas neither knew or cared about Mark Duggan and just though it was a chance to commit some criminal activity with little chance of being caught (so they though)
The people to blame for the riots are the people who rioted.
Naomi beat me to it.

I love the idea that you are not responsible for your actions, and that there must be a "cause" which relieves you of all self control.
Steve.5 you may not be old enough to remember the "Winter of Discontent".

This was in 1978 and 1979 when the country was brought to a halt by strikes. Rubbish everywhere, bodies not buried, it was chaos and the country was as it knees.

And who was in power - Labour.

And the only reason there IS social unrest when the Tories get in power is that the workshy and criminal element of this country stop getting their free handouts from Labior that PUTS the country into debt.

The "Labour" debt that the Tories always have to sort out when they get into power.

Any idiot can give away money like the Labour party do. It takes a bit of control and self restraint to sort out the Labour mess afterwards.

Lowlife criminal scum rioting over the death of low life criminal scum. Thats the fact of the matter, that should tell us all we need to know. Generations of liberal Doo gooding have got us here.
There is something not mentioned in this list and that is 'Lack of Respect' The people who carry out these crimes have no respect for anyone. They do not have respect for the people who's properties were destroyed. They don't see the consequences of their actions, because they are all selfish b'stards who only care about themselves.
Just imagine if, instead of a shop, it was YOUR house.

What if the looters had smashed your window, climbed in, trashed your room, and taken your telly ... smashing the rest of your windows for good measure, as they left ... and scratched your car, just for the heck of it.

Would you still sympathise with the rioters' point of view?

The Government is set to borrow £111 billion more over the next five years than previously expected, according to forecasts by the independent tax and spending watchdog,

( Any idiot can give away money ) You said it VHG
And guess which lefty rag is banging on about this, oh The guardian leader of all the pinko do gooding liberals.

Good hard sentencing and instal some respect is what is required. Pverty is a nonsense unless not owning a playstation Blackberry and LCD(probably LED these days) counts as poverty.

And if it is because of poverty lets not forget the cause was Noo Labour and useless Bottler Brown.

I do agree though that the Rozzers have something to answer for. They did not cause a riot though.
