ATM receipts

For years when using an ATM for cash I've always chosen to get a receipt with the money. These days the first thing I do every morning is to check my bank account on-line to see what transactions have occurred overnight, and this morning I suddenly thought "why am I bothering with those receipts"?

Are they any use other than for personal records? Has anyone had to use one to prove that they didn't get the cash that they requested, or for some other reason?

Don't think they have any other use that to check your balance, at least that's why I take one, I don't check on line
No, I never get them. Machines have cameras (not sure if all of them do)so if you didn't receive cash they footage can be referred back to.
They're just more pointless scraps of paper that end up in the bottom of my handbag for me.
I only get receipts for any deposits I make, just in case.
Oh Jeeeze, I cant stand being behind people like you at the hole in the wall, it drives me bonkers!!!

It's called a speed bank for a reason, put card in, punch in your PIN number, grab card again ,get your money- bugger off, don't stand there for bloody ages getting receipts and statements and God knows what else you're also doing there. The person behind you is usually me, and you have made me late for work- again!

Don't blame me, I'm so quick at using the machine that I'm always waiting for it to do what I've requested. And that is a lot faster than other people who faff around with their purses / wallets before and after using the ATM - I'm straight in and out, no hanging around.
I think there should be a one card only rule at cash machines.

You can draw money out, check your balance on one card but if you then want to do the same with a second card, get to the back of the queue sunshine!
or the people who suddenly get out about three more cards and get money from each account

Thank you all. No more confetti collecting for me from now on.
Twice I've had to use the receipt (there's a misnomer, if eve there was one).

It's happened that the machine has given me the transaction slip (a more accurate term), but not the money. If you go into the bank and say it wouldn't give you the money, it's very hard to convince them that there is a fault with the machine - they assume that the transaction was refused. If you have the slip, you can usually persuade them to open the machine, and check that the money is not jammed.

That's what has always been in the back of my mind, rojash, but it's a problem that hasn't happened to me yet. So I'll be expecting murphy's law to kick in soon.
