Should they have been given permission to hold this protest, on our day of remembrance?

Why aren't the moderate Muslims voicing their objections against these extremists?

Yes keyplus will you speak for "moderate" muslims on this matter and condem them?
These protesters should be treated as traitors and either deported or locked up. I certainly have no objection whatsoever of foreigners coming to live in this country if they show respect for others and show that they are willing to put something back into society.

These Islamic extremists choose to live here and therefore should conform to the ideologies and policies of our society and our Government rather than those of the Taleban, Al-Quaida and other international terrorist groups. If that is too much to ask, then they should, at the very least, keep their disrespectful opinions and vulgar demonstrations to themselves. They [Islamic extremists] expect us to put up with burning poppies and national flags however, if a group of far right Christian extremists were to burn something that was as symbolic to the Taleban, as the poppy is to the British Armed Forces, and a flag of Afghanistan or any other country the Islamic extremists come from, all hell would break loose and strong legal action would be demanded and no doubt, the demand would be met.

The British Government needs to grow some and address this issue now or we all risk being pushed back by these TRAITORS!!!!
Exactly lokerz1. I can't believe they keep getting away with it.
First and foremost I do not think The Daily Mail is the best paper to read for balanced opinion.
Yes they have the right to protest on our day of rememberance this is why what you get in a democracy. The right for someone to disagree with you and to offend your ideals.
My father fought in the second world war and lost his leg. Years later on holiday he was insulted by some person. I asked him why he was not annoyed and he said that is why he fought in the war. He said that if Hitler had won this man may have been taken away and god knows what would of happened.
If we are to try and put 'our' point over it should be reasoned and more importantly we should listen and digest the reply we get.
There were a lot of heroes, my father was one that quite quickly got forgotten as he fought in an old campaign. My father may have had a problem with the termonology 'Hero'. He just did what he was asked to do, in truth I do not believe I could of done what he did but he would not consider himself a hero.
Gavmacp, that is rather a splendid post.
"Keyplus, do you condemn this action?"

condemn them for what ? for protesting about the afghan/iraq wars or for burning a poppy ?
AOG, these aren't blowing anyone up, of course I would consider that a threat to Britain, these are gathering in front of a public building trying to annoy as many people as possible without actually doing anything, there's a massive difference! Of course the ideas behind it all may be the same but there are many people in the EDL who harbour similar views to the Nazis but do nothing more than puff their chests out and shout a bit, I wouldn't call them a threat either.
Gavmacp's post carries a very strong yet simple message and his father clearly held the type of views that made our country great and the views we must carry forward.

/// AOG, these aren't blowing anyone up, of course I would consider that a threat to Britain, these are gathering in front of a public building trying to annoy as many people as possible without actually doing anything, there's a massive difference! ///

At the moment, of course they are not blowing anyone up, (in this country anyway) but who can forecast what their next step may be?

They may be gathering in front of a public building annoying people at the moment, but with the inflamed hatred they hold for us, anyone would be completely naive to suggest they won't take more dangerous action against us in the future?

Comparing them with the EDL is completely wrong, the EDL have never used suicide bombers or killed anyone to my knowledge. No these people are fanatics and should not be ignored, to do so would be not only foolish but also fatal.
AOG, //At the moment, of course they are not blowing anyone up, (in this country anyway) but who can forecast what their next step may be? //

So should they be arrested and imprisoned for something you think they MIGHT do?
Noami, no i don't believe that would happen, but i think AOG has a point, which has been well covered with lots of opinions, perhaps it's time to put this one to bed.
Em, I agree an eye should be kept on any behaviour deemed suspicious for any reason, but we can't arrest people if they've committed no crime.

Yes we may hold that belief, but do you think the same can be said for the followers of Islam?

Salman Rushdie also the Danish and Dutch cartoons, spring to mind.

"Yes we may hold that belief, but do you think the same can be said for the followers of Islam? "

I'm afraid to say, AOG, that you are tarring all people of group "x" with the same brush. All Moslems are intolerant, potential suicide bombers by your (relentless if questionable) logic. There may well be a suicide bomber lurking amongst the protesters - whether or not they are allowed to protest today is unlikely to make much difference to how they turn out tomorrow. And the same goes for any protester of any group anywhere. I don't doubt there are a few well-meaning people in the EDL who think they are doing some good by belonging to or supporting that group.
In principle all groups should have a right to protest. For what it's worth I don't think it's appropriate or advisable for Moslem anti-war protesters to assemble in places like Wotton Bassett on the day of a memorial parade and if it was up to me I'd advise against it, but unless there's a threat of serious violence or law-breaking (which there may well be) then we should not ban their parades merely because we don't agree with them. The same goes for the EDL, etc.

Of course not, but they should not be ignored, and of course they should be more carefully monitored than they appear to be at the moment.

And anyone witnessed burning poppies, flags etc, should be arrested and charged with taking such action, which in turn could incite violence.
so you don't mind them protesting peacefully, so long as they don't burn a poppy ?
why is this any different, and in this case the bloke has gone to jail.

AOG, I did say earlier that they should be monitored by the police, I meant they should be ignored by the media as all this publicity only serves to play right into their hands in their efforts to create as big a divide between Muslims and non-Muslims in Britain as possible.
They want people to see all Muslims as the enemy so that moderate Muslims find it more difficult to integrate thus risking adopting some western ways of thinking. I don't want this to sound like and insult, more an observation, but I'm afraid people with similar viewpoints to yourself are this groups greatest allies at the moment!
