Although most of the press have been quiet over this, the EDL are planning a peaceful protest in Birmingham 0n 29th October.

http://www.birmingham...633404/#ixzz1bTGM6NbA

/// Selly Oak Labour MP Steve McCabe urged West Midlands Police to apply to Home Secretary Theresa May for the EDL protest to be banned ///

/// Unite Against Fascism confirmed it was organising an anti-EDL demonstration, to start at noon in High Street. A spokesman said: “The EDL wants to bring its vicious, anti-Muslim racist hatred to the multi-racial, multi-cultural city.” ///

Since it would appear that the UAF are purposely organising an anti-EDL demonstration, which invariably causes trouble, perhaps in this instant it is the UAF who should be banned, just as the EDL should be banned if they tried to disrupt an UAF protest.

What a change that would be to see the headlines:

" MP URGES POLICE TO BAN UNITED AGAINST FASCISM COUNTER-DEMONSTRATION IN BIRMINGHAM"

What? Like the ones on the anti-capitalist march?
Protest I should have said...
oh, no ummm, them is just part time holiday campers.

the edl is full time dedicated hatred, with clubs and dunce caps and everything.

/// “This is a rag bag of extremism looking to cause trouble ///

Let's be fair here,

Would you also include 'The Far Left' 'The Communists' 'The Anti-Fascists' 'The Muslims Against Crusades' and all the trouble making opposing thugs as well?

Regarding the threat of the rise of radical Islam in this country, who would you have oppose them, do you not think that in the total lack of action from our politicians, there is now a need for some to stand up to the threat?

You seem perfectly willing to support that crowd outside St Pauls in their fight against Capitalism.

Forgot to mention these Islam4UK, now you can't possible support these, or can you?
I don't support any extremist groups who attempt to force their views on others by violent means or who disrespect the rights of others to have a different point of view.

I dislike seeing anything or anyone banned - i am a libertarian.

But it appears that the EDL have 'previous' in Birmingham. That is the reason given by Mr McCabe. Is there any evidence that they did not cause trouble last time?
Question Author
Why don't the authorities ban these counter marches, which will then prove if it is really the EDL who cause the trouble.

Or perhaps hold back the UAF, and let the EDL get on with their 'peaceful protest'?

It may prove to be a useful experiment once and for all, either way, don't you think?
seems to me that if you ban the edl, then the uaf won't protest.

its win win.
yawn...again.
As ever Old Git, lots of presuppositions in your post

<<Regarding the threat of the rise of radical Islam in this country>>

presupposes there is a 'rise' of any significance and presupposes that is a 'threat'. If someone in UK wants to embrace 'radical islam' (whatever that is) it doesn't bother me as long as it doesn't intrude on my life and isn't forced on others.

<<who would you have oppose them>> presupposes it should be opposed. As above, if it includes behaviour contravening laws we have already then it will be 'opposed' by our legal system and the police. All evidence is that this is what happens currently; hardly surprising when the vast majority of citizens (and police) have little sympathy with radical muslim ideas.

<<some to stand up to the threat?>> Again, presupposes there is a threat. Can you define and give examples of what is at threat and from whom? And I wouldn't include a couple of dozen attention-seekers being stupid and disrespectful at a Remembrance Service.
"Are you willing to state that - in line with your admitted and oft-defended right wing views, you regard the EDL as a legitimate political cause, and the UAF to be little more than 'leftie' agitators?"

I'll take your lack of a response to that part of my question as a 'No' then.
Why would anyone need to ban a counter demonstration if the original demonstration had already been banned?

Why do the EDL target areas with large Muslim communities? Is it the modern day equivalent of the Blackshirts marching through largely Jewish communities, like back in the 60s, or the NF handing out literature outside Brixton tube in the 70s?

/// I'll take your lack of a response to that part of my question as a 'No' then.///

Why are you so arrogant enough to pick out just one paragraph in your post, to go on and ask why I have not answered it, taking into account the complete lack of response from you regarding most of my 13.02 posting?

But then I myself cannot be seem to side tail a question, as it seems others may choose to do, so I will answer you.

First let me say it is not an offence to foster 'Right Wing' views, after all the once 'Proper Tories' where not frightened to air their right wing views once upon a time

/// you regard the EDL as a legitimate political cause ///

I do not regard the EDL a legitimate political 'party', but their 'cause' I do tend to defend.

/// and the UAF to be little more than 'leftie' agitators?" ///

Yes I will go along with that, can you prove them otherwise?

Now perhaps you would also do me the courtesy of commenting on the following, taken from my 13.02 posting?

/// yet when politicians comment on our demonstrations they so often resort to juvenile name-calling. Sometimes commentators cobble together a rather amateur, inaccurate and insulting analysis ///

And it is not only the politicians, is it Andy?

/// "that this country is 'white' and belongs only to its indigenous population".///

What is your proof of this, have the EDL ever said they want all black and otherwise non-indigenous persons shipping out of the land?

/// If there are any British Muslims who wish to side with radical Islam, then that is more a reflection on them than it is on us. Our quarrel is not with individuals, but with an ideology ///

Are you against radical Islam, Andy?

/// Why would anyone need to ban a counter demonstration if the original demonstration had already been banned? ///

Are you for real? the original demonstration has not been banned (as yet), so what's your point?

/// Why do the EDL target areas with large Muslim
communities? ///

They are nothing like the Black Shirts, the NF, or the BNP. They are not targeting Muslims per se, but radical Islam.

Taking into account your skin colour and your sexuality, you of all people should surely be opposed to radical Islam.
