Dodgy Call?

I just answered a call at work from a witheld number. The person asked to speak to one of our employees to which I advised that he was rarely in the office and asked if it was something I could help with. He sounded a bit muddled so I asked if it was a personal call to which he said it was more personal then business. I asked him to confirm the name of the person he wanted and he then said he had specifically asked to be called on this number (which is odd as he's never in the office). I asked him to give me his details and I would get the employee to call him. He then said he name was Kevin from HSBC but wouldn't give me a number and just kept saying the employee would have the number. I called the employee and asked if he was expecting any calls but he said no.

Anyone else had anything like this, it was really weird.

it may just be his bank calling, they would normally have employer details on their records and would try that number during business hours,

Maybe but he said he had been asked by my employee to call this number and what harm would giving me the banks number to pass on be?

maybe the bank prefer customers to call number direct without giving it, to ensure that its not just anyone pretening to be him calling them back

well if its dodgy then they wouldnt usually have a persons name against a company phone number. and now they know its a business they shouldnt call again anyway

I am nosy. But it would also be my duty to pass on what could have been an important message.

I get looooaaaddsss of calls from these pre-recorded lines trying to seel you stuff, usually from the name of a bank. We are registered with TPS but it doesn't work.

maybe he gave this as his daytime contact number when setting up an account?

I wouldn't think so, as I said, he's never here.

maybe not, but they'll want a contact number anyway, so perhaps that's the one he gave.

If I was trying on a scam, I'd either say "Never mind, I'll try later" and hang up when told he wasn't there; or if I was more determined I'd give a number for him to ring back.

the prerecorded ones are a pain in the backside i get them here daily. But they dont ask for a specific person.

Maybe Jno. It just seemed odd he wouldn't give me a number for the person to call him back on.

I know they don't ask for a specific person Red, they are just highly irritating.

I have, in the past and when pressed, given out a telephone number to which I had access and could be reached......just at *my* convenience and not theirs.

Perhaps his bank want to talk to him about his overdraft, and he would prefer not to have the conversation......? :o)

I would have cut him off halfway through. If it was that important, they would try again, properly next time.
