If I was young and healthy enough, I would. There are people as we speak going to India to sell their organs in a very unsafe environment. If people of this country are going to sell their organs surely it should be made safer. PS: Having worked in the NHS for 25yrs, I was told that people who carry a donor card are less likely to survive than those who don't - on the basis that one death has the potential to save/improve at least three other lives.

Got that Ratter.
well if you're gonna be rude I won't bother! sheesh!
No I wouldn't.......... having a kidney removed is painfel and has certain dangers inherent in the operation.

Now after donating your kidney.....what if you developed kidney disorders in your one and only kidney?
"people who carry a donor card are less likely to survive than those who don't" who told you that?
Question Author
First to Pa -uL - was I rude?
And to Sqad - life is full of inherent risks - why is ths different than getting into a car and driving for example?
I don't really understand your claim about peoploe who hold donor cards but I would actually consider flogging a kidney to the highest bidder.

redcrx - a colleague in the NHS during my time as anNHS employee.
- <<why is ths different than getting into a car and driving for example?>>

smart....it isn't.
many people have suggested it, but what made you believe it?

and to answer the kidney question, knowing two people on dialasis (sp) and transplant lists, no i would never sell one kidney even if i thought i was healthy!
Yes it is Sqad...you don't get into your car with the intention of crashing..!
So you give up a Kidney for profit but what happens in one of the following scenarios:

1) Your remaining kidney fails, you go to hospital and they find you sold the other. Would they replace it given you were a mercenary in the first place.

2) Your spouse/ child needs a kidney replacement or they will die. You could easily be the provider but you only have one.
Question Author
Sqad - because everything we do gas an inherebt risk. Do I need to explain that indoors or outdoors, there is an inherent risk with everything we do. The car was merely an example.
ummm.I don't that was smart's point.

I think that she meant that there were inherent dangers in kidney donation as there are in driving a car.
