Stops chaffing from clothes.

as salla says, it gets people talking about him on Q&A websites.
1. To reduce the overall weight that he had to move through the sea?
2. To avoid wet/sweaty clothing chafing his delicate skin?
3. To reduce the expense of the trip (no need to spend money on clothes)?
4. To acquire an all-over suntan that would wow the girls?
I've run out of sensible ideas!
My only naked ambition would be to look good in swimming trunks, but, at 71 years old, I reckon I can say goodbye to that!
What Salla said.
Oh, I love being naked. It's very liberating.

If we stay in a villa on holiday, I'm always naked in the garden. I love feeling the Sun all over me.

It also leads to lots of spontaneous nookie, when you're least expecting it. But that probably doesn't apply if you're busy rowing.

Actually, I would have thought that the his bum would have got a bit sore, rubbing against the seat, what with all the salty water and so on.
poor lad didn't make much money for the charity, maybe he couldn't afford clothes.
it he had a little air cushion it would chafe less than wet pants.
I sailed naked once, on a particularly blissfully sunny peaceful day on the North Brittany coast into Tregiuer. My BF was naked also. (mind you, our only audience were the seagulls....)
Good on his cobblers I say !
I suppose doing it naked is a bit like an extreme form of rolling one's sleeves up before a difficult task, going at it hammer and tong as nature intended. (I bet he got a sweaty bum crack though).
Nice of the boyfriend to supply a perch for them I guess.
I remember reading about Chay Blyth he said that when he and John Ridgway (i think it was them) rowed the Atlantic the took thier clothes off as it was more comfortable.

However it wasn't piblicised until long after the event.

For 'THEM'
Why does one feel obliged to ask?

Is one's common sense not functioning in the rarefied atmosphere of another section that is not News?
I saw a documentary re Ben Fogel and the other fella (who's name I forget) rowing the attlantic and they rowed naked because of chafing.
You may be right Dave, I thought it was Ben Fogle (probably because I fancied the idea of a naked Ben Fogle)
or a naked James Cracknell.....?!
