Afternoon all,

I wonder if you can shed light on the best practice when wanting to pay off your student loan?

I ask because although I am aware you can pay it all off online, a colleague at work did this and she was still having the loan payments deducted from her salary for six months. Other people tell me to phone up SLC, get my balance and then tell them to stop taking from my salary. Is that what to do or do I ask my employer to tell SLC to stop taking my loan repayments, before I can then get my balance to pay off?

Thanks for your help.

It depends, I understand, what sort of mandate SLC have to take the money. Direct debit or standing order?

Well it's directly from my salary each month so perhaps neither of the above. My main problem is if I pay it off, I don't want to have to go through yet more admin when they continue to take from my salary money I no longer owe.
It warns you about that here http://www.studentloa...portal&_schema=PORTAL
it explains what happens when you are approaching the end of your repayment period here http://www.studentloa...portal&_schema=PORTAL
