Is the spread of religious idiocy the new mantra for the 21st century?

It sickens me that certain people of the religious persuasion think that the unimaginable horror experienced by the Japanese people as a result of the massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami is the work of an all powerful God. This would be the same God that religious people claim loves all mankind... except those who He chooses to kill for no obvious...

Bobbisox that may well be true but in the past all learned people were religious do we just pick the bits out which we agree with.
I think it is a bit more recent than that. Put it down to the legailty of homosexuality and gay partnerships. They come now come out from under their duvets whereas before it was a crime and coming out is no longer a sin.

I didn't say it was correct or the right thing to liberalise these laws but when they meet their maker they may be confined to the ovens. If they are not religious they may escape the punishment.
rov - that is an appalling opinion to express here. It has shades of a certain moustached German who used to salute about it and is abhorrent. I think you should retract it as quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if you were reported. We have folk here whose relatives andfamiy friends were obliterated in the manner you describe.

Religion (and the educated who developed it) was used as a means of explaining the unexplainable. Hopefully, we are moving beyond that now in our knowledge of science and th rest re humanity,. psychology etc etc.

rov: You cannot seriously expect to make a statement like that and get away without providing any evidence to support it at all. What on earth is your evidence apart from speculative personal "intuition" that anything you've said is true? Is the correlation you've identified even remotely sustainable? Because unless you've got some pretty damn extraordinary evidence, then you're going to look like a fool.
And by the way, rov, I invite you to consider the possibility that there may be a young gay person somewhere who can read what you say. If there's even a remote chance that's possible, then on principle I absolutely refuse to let you spout such vile nonsense unchallenged.
I always thought it was the Christians who brought about the decline and fall of the Roman empire. Their talk of 'love thy neighbour' and 'turn the other cheek' undermined the entire social fabric of the empire.
Rov, what on earth are you on about?

This is just so typical of Catholic hogwash!!! Catholics are probably to blame for more deaths in the world than any dictator or terrorist organisation, through their preaching to the vulnerable and ill informed about condom use!!

If there is a Heaven (which there isnt) St Peter wont be letting any Catholics through those pearly gates!!!

Classic!!!!!!!
RATTER...LOL....absolute CLASSIC.
It would take someone to have a particularly filthy mind to see anything untoward in my innocent comment. ;-)
SR, read my answer below your earlier answer, my mind isn't filthy, unlike that of Catholics paedophile priests who appear to think homosexuality is fine as long as its with a young boy that you can terrorize into silence by the threat of fire and damnation by this so called forgiving God that people spout on about!! !!!!!!
My last post was just a poor attempt at a joke.
My last post was just me slipping my atheist/humanist/anti Catholic hat on for a moment. I must sort out my hats, I do have a lot :-))

Don't I Sqad? :-)
Question: "What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Is homosexuality a sin?"

Answer: The Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). Romans 1:26-27 teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. When people continue in sin and unbelief, God “gives them over” to even more wicked and depraved sin in order to show them the futility and hopelessness of life apart from God. 1 Corinthians 6:9 proclaims that homosexual “offenders” will not inherit the kingdom of God.
try telling that to your so-called priests. It just adds to the argument that woman do have a role as leaders and "rabbis" within the Catholic church.

Now I know most priests are decent folk but your minority sickos just underpin the need for proper acceptance of homosexuality into modern society, instead of repressing it so that one of your clan, assuming that you are Catholic, can slip his six up the bum of an unsuspecting minor.
I don't understand why this man singled out Caligula for praise. If impregnating your sister, then slitting her open and swallowing the foetus is to be praised, give me homosexuality every time!
rov: And why should we believe what the Bible tells us?
For reference, I'm not just asking to be difficult. The reason I'm asking is that you've quite casually passed judgement (and quite a nasty one at that) on a whole group of people. If you've got the balls to do that right in front of people who fall into that group, then you should be able to back it up.
