War song

I cannot for the life of me remember a very famous song which both starts and ends with the beating of a solitary drum, it's used in a war film if memory serves me correctly. For some reason John Williams keeps popping into my head but i'm not too sure if he composed it. Any ideas?

Is it a song about war?
The closest I can guess is the Green Fields of France and one version was by John McDermott.
