Hi. I am looking for a website that will give me lists of songs that are about famous people. e.g. Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder is about Martin Luther King.
I have seen a previous post where people listed the ones they knew, but if possible, I would like a more extensive list.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated Best regards

I'm sure Carly Simon said it was an urban legend that she was referring to Warren Beatty in the song.
Also, Ray Davis of the Kinks said the same about Terry + Julie in Waterloo Sunset- he wasn't referring to Terence Stamp + Julie Christie, sadly- it was about one of his cousins.
Hangs head in shame

It's true. It's all true. And I have fish breath.
There is a John Lennon song (on the Beatles White Album) called Sexy Sadie.

This is about the Maharishi that the Betles went to see in India, who turned out to be a bit of a conman.

John originally called the song Maharishi but had to change it for legal reasons.

The lyrics include:

Sexy Sadie, what have you done, you may a fool of everyone.

More here:

Also, after the Beatles broke up John Lennon and Paul McCartney had a bit of a falling out.

John thought Paul's songs were a bit too bland so he wrote a song to Paul called "How do you sleep"

It was on one of John's solo albums.
What about American Pie?

Squarebear - Mick Jagger actually sang on 'Your'e so Vain'.
Who is American Pie about? I always assumed it was just abvout the American way of life?
Buddy Holly
Is it really? Shows how much I listen to that classic's lyrics then doesn't it? LOL

And hello brachi my love- how are you?
Don't be jealous of CD, Boo - you've got a song named after you too -

Most of them say who it's about, others just list songs with a famous person in the title.

The Late Great Johnny Ace - Paul Simon - about Johnny Ace and John Lennon
Hi Boo, love.

Can't you tell I'm bored? I'm hardly ever on here at work - but today I'm in a real 'Can't-be-@rsed' mood !

Thought of some more -

'Be my Yoko Ono' - Barenaked Ladies
'When Smokey Sings' - ABC
'Robert DiNero's waiting' - Bananarama
Adam Ant vs XTC - They Might be Giants
'Do it with Madonna' - The Androids
Some song-writing facts you may not have known......

The Girls Aloud song Ill Stand By You was written about Kwame Nkrumah, first President of the West African state of Ghana.

When Bryan Adams wrote Everything I Do (I Do It For You) , he had in mind an imagined conversation between Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.

Ash wrote their 1995 hit Girl From Mars about Marianne Faithful.

In their 2006 hit Valerie, The Zutons Dave McCabe was paying homage to ex-Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton.
Panic by Morrissey - Steve Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright - Simon and Garfunkel
Shine on you crazy diamond by Pink Floyd - Sid Barrett
Year of the Rat by Badly Drawn Boy - George W Bush

I'm sure if I sat here long enough I could come up with a dozen or so.
brachiopod, 'I'll stand by you' was a song by The Pretenders ruined by Girls aloud. : )
Is it? Ooops !!
I know The Pretender's song, but since I don't actually know any Girls Aloud songs, I just googled "Girls Aloud discography" and randomly selected it from a list !

:o)
I'll forgive you then. LOL
Didn't actually know the song was about that myself but it's another of my favourites.
Anyway the thought of girls aloud singing about african Politicians made me laugh. From the little I've heard of them it's not their usual subject matter!
Killing me softly - Roberta Flack (Bob Dylan)
Vincent - Don Mclean (Vincent van Gogh)
Man on the Moon - REM - Andy Kaufmann

No website that will list them all though. You could post a Wikipedia entry with your research though (although no-one would believe it - lol)
Vincent/American Pie - Don McLean
Paul McCartney - Scissor Sisters
