Bluegrass music is considered a form of American roots music which has its own roots in Irish, African and Scottish traditional music. The name of the genre is derived from the Blue Grass Boys, the name of Bill Monroe's band. Bill Monroe is considered the Father of Bluegrass music and was a native of Kentucky. Bluegrass was inspired by the music of immigrants from the British Isles (particularly the Scots-Irish immigrants of Appalachia), as well as that of rural African-Americans, jazz, and blues. In bluegrass, as in jazz, each instrument takes a turn playing the melody and improvising around it, while the others revert to backing; this is in contrast to old-time music, in which all instruments play the melody together or one instrument carries the lead throughout while the others provide accompaniment. Bluegrass is distinctively acoustic, rarely using electric instruments
Most major record shops sould have a Bluegrass selection - probably in the country music section. A Bluegrass Compilation is probably a good place ro start

The website for Ernest Tubb Record Shop - probably the best country music store in the world and situated on Broadway, Nashville, TN. Although I think their online store may only ship within the USA they have a comprehensive list of Bluegrass Artists which may give you soime pointers.

Our favourites are Flett and Scruggs, Ralph Stanley and Alison Krauss
Sorry that should be Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs - my typing's not up to much today!
