A friend has asked me to identify this anti war song going around in her head. Maybe someone can help. It's by a male singer and probably 1960's.

'Come Away Melinda' springs to mind although the lyrics are not quite the same as the ones you have said. Originally recorded by Harry Belafonte and covered (among others) by Tim Rose and Uriah Heap.
