In 'Lola' was it originally
'I met her in a club down in old Soho, where you drink champagne and it tastes like CHERRY Cola'?

I'm listening to it now but it says nothing about cherry Cola, just plain old cola!

Have I gone mad!?

I think, it was originally supposed to be Coca Cola, but the BBC said they wouldn't play it as it was construed as advertising, so they changed it to Cherry Cola. Maybe you have an earlier version?

The original version of Lola mentioned 'Coca Cola' but Ray Davies re-recorded the vocal line changing it to 'Cherry Cola' to appease the BBC and copyright holders.

I think you're probably right! Thanks!

I don't think my link is working. I'll try again.

I have no idea why the link won't work, but if you Google www.songfacts.com and then type in 'Lola' it should take you to some interesting information about the song and why Ray Davies was inspired to write it.
