Oooh, me poor ears! Does anyone else loathe her version of 'One'? I don't know what it is about the lady but she always strikes me as hard work too.

Mary J Bilge more like! that's not my own work, someone said it before, but I don't remember who!

Sorry to disagree with you, but hey there you go.

But i think she has a great voice and oozes star quality, and i love her version of one.

Hi teagirl I have to agree with you. I dont mind some of her recordings she seems to be a "soul icon" why ?? This song I admit is dire. But there you go someone must like it.
Sorry, i dont agree, i quite like it.
its Better by Mica Paris!!!!!!

mary is ok but quite frankly this is one of the greatest songs of all time and you shouldnt try to improve on perfection cos it'll only hurt! i guess im just a U2 purist who hates any kind of reworking.

also the bit where she sings the 'jesus' bit in 'have u come here to play jesus' really irritates me. why sing 20 notes when one will do!!

Thanyou mkt you have hit the nail absolutely on the head here. I couldn't work out quite why it bothered me so, I should have just thought harder!
Hhmmm, undecided about it, ok in the middle but she absolutely murders it at the end with all that moaning, what's that all about? Last time I heard anything like it was on a ghost train in Blackpool!! U2 do it best, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
i usually love mary but when i saw her singing "one" on "this morning" i thought it was awful !!
I see it's billed as Mary J Blige featuring U2 (nice of her to invite them). I'd have thought "Mary J Blige doing her squawking best to drown out U2, who seem embarrassed to be there" would have been nearer the mark. Dreadful stuff.
Utter Utter shi*e!!!!!

She should've left it to U2.
The mistake everyone makes when doing covers is that they choose to do cover versions of good songs. What they should do is take a really bad song and try to improve it and make it their own. Covers of good songs always turn out far worse than the originals, especially if they're very emotional and the cover singer hasn't had any of the same experiences as the original artist (remember Gareth Gates's cover of Suspicious Minds?).

What is her middle name?
