the best band you could go for in the death metal section are norwegian underground band darkthrone who have recently released a new album. v pagan and devil worshipping type band if thats the sort of thing you are after if not just go for someone like Iron Maiden and try Black Sabbath but definately research scandinavian bands.

I dont think Slayer are classed as Death Metal....but they are the best thrash Metal band ever.

Cradle of Filth do a song called Nymphetamine which is awesome...the only other song I have heard from them sounded like what I wud think Death Metal is...so they may be Death Metal.
