can i just plug my new ipod into my computer and transfer the songs onto it or do i need to install the software cd that came with the new one?

if i do install the software is it going to wipe off all the tracks i spent weeks loading into itunes?

no, your current iTunes will be fine, as long as it's the latest version. if you run iTunes, and goto help -> about, it'll say what version you have. current is 6.0.2.23 i believe.

just plug new iPod in, it'll ask if you want to use that library with that iPod, and click yes.

you will need to install a newer version of the iPod software though, just in case something goes wrong and you need to fix it:

A friend has just got a video iPod but they don't know how to convert videos, wmv, avi, DVD etc. to play on it. Any help?
wideboy: you can use something like this:

You can try Tansee iPod Transfer which can backup songs and videos in iPod to PC, copy iPod songs and videos to new ipod, computer or notebook.
