Yeah they started afew years earlier but in 1961 sounded like this not like beach boys

Jan and Dean (William Jan Berry & Jean Ormsby Torrence) were recording as early as 1958 and had a distinctive West Coast sound that the Beach Boys took to another level after being greatly influenced by them. The first reference to surfing by Jan and Dean was probably the Album Take Linda Surfin in 1963, and then the American No1 Surf City in the same year.

Dick Dale and the Del-Tones are often credited with having the first surfing hit. I have to admit to finding that a bit odd as (because it's an instrumental) there's no reference to surfing involved anywhere!

This was another deltones hit with a surf sound (crossed with a bit of Monster Mash tho)

The track Lets Go Trippin considered the first surf instrumental — was actually inspired by the waves, as Dick Dale sought to translate the feeling he had surfing onto tape. Later surfing tracks used the bongo drums and Hawaian sounds to try to do the same. The people who did actually surf, and formed their own little sub culture, had their own sountrack as did other social groups.

Yes. LSD was first synthesized by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann in 1938. Although trippin meant have a dangerous or exciting time in the early 60s in America.

Not at all Atheist. When I joined AB, I couldn't think of a username, but that same week, I won £5 in our local paper's crossword. They published the results, with "and The Winner is" then put my name. Hey Presto! Here I am. (but in real life, thick as a brick).
