Seems a bit racist to me. I can't see them having a white only equivalent. There'd be too many protests

The fact that there is a major literary prize for women only has also baffled me for some time. Oh yes, and since only British and Commonwealth authors are eligible for the Booker Prize, doesn't that make it nationalist (or maybe colonialist?)? I don't recall ever being given a choice about what race, gender or even nationality I wanted to be...

Spot on Einstein
I personally feel that positive discrimination only serves to fuel the fires of racists, sexists and homophobics. I take your point that in the past, blacks and women have traditionally held lower paid and lower profile jobs, and quite rightly, there have been steps taken to redress that balance and create fair opportunities for all. Of course that won't change overnight, but creating ethnic/women only awards will serve only to widen the cultural and gender gap.If somebody has a skill or talent, then they should be judged on their abilities, not their sex, religion, skin colour or physical ability I personally get tired of political correctness, where people are afraid to say what they think in case it offends me. (I,m of mixed race and from a working class background BTW)
