This won't help you much, but i'm sure that this song is always credited as ANON as it comes from waaaay back! i do however know a version that my brother and i used to sing as kids.... What do you do if you wanna go a loo.... etc! i think we made that one up!

Possibly Nana Mouskouri, a google search turns up nothing solid, but if you cliak on

you get the words and the tune played. Nice!

A search shows Jimmy Rogers. I remember the song but not who sang it.
It may have been, "Peter Paul and Mary" but Im not one hundred percent sure.
An American called Jimmie Rodgers got to number 5 in the UK with this song in 1962. It was his fifth chart hit in Britain, and the last.
Yep, Jimmie Rodgers!

Thanks everyone. Jimmy Rogers is the answer we were searching for. Yet another bar argument resolved.

I have an lp - it was one of my favourites as a child and I'm trying to find it on CD It was called English Country Garden and other favourites sung by Jimmie Rodgers. The song was written by (Sharpe/Jordan) !
