Punk. I love some of it and these are on my Iplayer. I had 3 teenage brothers through these times and they drove me mad, or so I thought then. They really did give me a string back to the early Rock n Roll.

The perfect single that, Tony. Still love it now. I have the Undertones EP somewhere- that, True Confessions and another (Emergency Case?).

One Direction's cover doesn't quite match it

Some guitar opening this, believe me.

Preferred this Clash one

As a student in 1977 there were several great gigs every week - so many bands seemed to tour and were happy doing the Uni circuit

Tony- I can understand why you never got to the second half of this.

You'll know the first half.
Quite like both covers but obviously neither comes close to the original or the other tunes on this thread
I think I get what you're saying re Train in Vain, Togo. I assume you weren't listening to it by yourself.
The Clash were able to move seamlessly between the punk type stuff, to the reggae and then the pop stuff later on. I loved London Calling and rediscovered Straight to Hell after hearing it sampled on the wonderful Paper Planes in Slumdog Millionaire
Thanks ff, your right though( second half ), but well done them for raising some dosh.
