I have a memory of little Rudy Huxtable (Keshia Knight Pulliam) miming an old jazz/blues song while walking down the stairs. She's singing in reply to Bill Cosbys part of the song and shouts Baabeeee (baby) with a really expressive face while she's miming it.

I would really love to know the song. I've tried to research it on the Internet but come up blank and as there are over 200 episodes to look through I need another way of finding out

Any ideas?

Hi ric - I think its James Browns - I got the feelin.  If you google Cosby Show and Grandparents anniversary because I think they sang the song on the stairs for the celebration.

Thanks Peri for your effort but that's not the song I was looking for.  She was miming to an older woman like Keely Smith, Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn.  I think the song might be from that era as well.  Think of a female that might sing with Louie Armstrong and we might be getting close to the artist that sang the song (I think).

I'm thinking Nightime Is the Right Time by Ray Charles - lyrics - with Rudy singing the Margie Hendricks part.
Peri was on the right lines - synopsis.

Well  done Kempie, spot on.

I've downloaded the song and it's all come back to me now, with the rest of the Huxtables leaning forward clicking and singing the backing vocals

I should have known it really, I've got the new Ray charles DVD on his life.

Thanks for your help
