When I was a young girl, mum bought these air fresheners that were round, had a hole in the middle (like a large polo mint) and they came in a variety of colours like pink, white, green etc.

Once unwrapped and exposed to the air, they used to melt away to nothing leaving a lovely smell in the air. Mum used hers in the toilet and bedroom.

They were about during the 60's and 70's. I have not seen them about.

Do you remember them if you are of a certain age???

Weren't they meant to dangle in the loo?
Question Author
My mum did not dangle hers in the loo!!! She had them hung up, even in the wardrobe.
Ha ha
Could they be glade air fresheners? Sorry can't do links!
Yes I remember those, used to be wrapped in coloured cellophane if I remember rightly.

Something like the one in this link ( except they were coloured ).

They were wrapped in colourful cellophane which was pleated around the circle and sealed with a round sticker in the middle, over the hole. They were suspended on a hooked piece of wire that hung in to the pan. They coloured the water when the toilet was flushed and gave off a perfume.

There could have been something similar as air fresheners, but I don't remember them.

HC, I don't know why, but my Mum used them as air fresheners in the house.
Maybe she got the wrong end of the stick with these.
Yep, thats how I remember them to, hc.
Maybe she liked the smell.

But I do apologise, it seems there are very similar things that are air fresheners! Sorry

That's it HC, in your first link!!!!! And she used to get them from the 'pound shop' in those days!
Hurrah!

I do vaguely remember seeing them in a caravan we holidayed in - they felt a bit like wax crayons.
Yes that's them alright ( 1st link ).
Ooh. Just reading about these things is giving me a headache. I can't stand artificial smells.
As I remember, pine was a popular smell back in the 70s. Those things that used to hang in cars. Yuk.
They still hang them in cars, cloverjo. Whenever I have my car serviced or valeted they insist on putting them in - they go straight in the bin.
Do you remember the ones that looked like traffic lights? I suppose you can still get them, too.
Yes I remember those, hc.
Had to pierce the back with a pin.

They were known as an 'AirWick'. But 'AirWick' is a trade name so it can only be used by the original owner, who I think no longer is in business.
The things that stick in our minds. Wish I could remember the important stuff so well
