Rod Temperton has passed away and although I was not a huge fan of the genre he did write some of the most recognisable tunes and songs ever recorded. A boy from Cleethorpes who worked in a Grimsby fish factory aged 66 when he died. He could have walked down any high street in the Country unrecognised.

Very sad.

I was a big heatwave fan - The Groove Line was a staple of my Thursday night set when I DJ'd at Sammi Belles in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Very talented man, sad loss to music.

I didn't know he did that, Respect and R I P.

That's the way to do it - write the songs and have all the money - and none of the grief that fame brings you!

Who would know Diane Warren if you passed her in the street, but I bet her bank manager sends her a birthday card ! -

DJ at sammi belles? Didn't that place change to Hudson and then Maxims? On the old Sammy Bells pottery site Lower St.
I was unaware of quite how many songs he was responsible for - "The Invisible Man" indeed.

RIP Rod.

It went straight to Maxims, and Maxims in Hanley became Chicos.

I DJ'd at all of them, and The Place - wonderful times.

As I am sure you know, Chicos was fire damaged and demolished when the bus station went, Maxims is to be converted into flats - it's a listed building and can't be demolished, and The Place has been pulled down for the construction of a cinema and restaurants.

I often think I could hire a room and put on a 'Sammis' Thursday' Reunion Night!

Will there have to be a punch up andy? You know like the good old days haha.

Hopefully not, and confimed to the car park if there is!

At all the clubs, the DJ areas and all the bars had a panic button, and if you pressed it, bouncers appeared instantly.

I remember a new barman working upstairs at Sammis thought it was just a call button (it was built into a phone) and he wondered why four bouncers came tearing up the stairs when he only wanted to tell someone his bar was out of lemonaide!
Confined to the car park would be even better!!
Were you there around 1980 andy? i went a few times.

I certainly was!

I worked Thursday nights, and some weekends, and Sundays for a while too. Were you there then? Thursday was T. Rex and The Beatles at 11:00 p.m. on the dot!
RIP Rod, the music lives on.
