Why are most Eurovision songs so bad? It gets an enormous audience and s a fantastic showcase for songwriters as well as singers, so why do all these nations churn out such tosh? It doesn't even represent what's in the charts

The key for me is: would I buy any of these songs, and the answer for years now has been "no". Last Eurovision song I loved was the German winner by Lena

The vast majority of Eurovision songs are bland and instantly forgettable. No amount of costumes, lights and performance can cover over a poor song
Buenchicho - in defence of the UK vocalists, who are clearly badly out of tune - do I recall that there was a techno-glitch whereby the couldn't hear their backing track?
Andy, not sure about that but I do recall the opening song from Spain in 1990 started off disastrously for the same reason. The confused faces of the two female vocalists was priceless!
Here's a thought, Sir Cliff failed to win twice in 68 and 73. Mind you, the 73 winner by Anne-Marie David was excellent.
I haven't watched the Eurovision Song Contest for yonks .

Has the format changed then - i.e. countries compete in heats to get to a final ?
I haven't watched Eurovision for years but the late Sir Terry Wogan with his dry and dead-pan wit made it watchable.
Ireland didn't make it through. What was the song like?
Brotherhood of Man won in 1976 but I give you a much better song technically. This is the Greek entry from Mariza Koch called 'Panaghia mou, Panaghia mou'.

Brotherhood of Man won by the biggest margin in Eurovision history, and Save Your Kisses For Me is the biggest selling Eurovision single ever
Vernonk - :) No accounting for taste!

That song was called 'Death of Cyprus', a protest against Turkey's invasion in 75 and their foreign policy in general.

Ok,back to the drawing board then, I'll try and convince you of another :)
