If Music Is For Everyone, Why Theteasing?
46 Answers
I know I've posted this subject a lot, but it just really does not make sense!
Why the Teasing? Why are there fan bases not more neutral (balanced)?
Why do TV shows/movies/media only show their primary fan gender and teases the other gender for liking it?

I suspect much of the male hatred aimed at the entire Boy Band genre is that teenage girls gush over the band members' looks and, by comparison, the rest of us look plain, or downright ugly, not to mention not loaded with cash, like pop singers are. So boy band members represent a direct threat with our chances of getting a girlfriend (when we're in that age group). Of course, the girls in question grow up, fast, so the typical, 'manufactured' boy band seldom lasts more than a year or two. Don't worry, they'll be a new one along, any minute.
So, the general public has developed the, somewhat jaded view that they are insubstantial, flash-in-the-pan 'pap' and not what you could describe as "music built to last".
Generically, I'd describe the music as "ballads", which is a style you could trace back to the 1920s/30s. There may still be people alive who listen to Bing Crosby, on a daily basis and he sold in the millions. These days, a number one only needs to sell a few hundred thousand, so targeting one specific audience - teenage girls who have only been exposed to recent marketing and are entirely ignorant of the other million or so acts (of the past 50-odd years) is a winning strategy. Whereas bands which appeal to all genders/orientations don't chart so highly, even when their musicianship is, arguably better.
There is a whole other anti-marketing, anti-pre-packaged generic vocal group angle but I hardly need to repeat what you've no doubt heard before.
So, I don't think you need to question your sexuality; you just need to widen your horizons and try music by other contemporary bands and, especially, not forgetting the enormous back catalogue of past artistes. You Tube vids of my favourite bands always have praising comments from people in their 20's who are only just discovering them.

Yes, clearly my bias is showing. You specified boy bands, so I was referring to anything and everything which falls outside of that narrow description.
If these kinds of groups (perhaps I should say genres, as the rock group concept is equally narrow) are not to your taste then the best you can do is accept that other people regard your favourite genre of music with the same lack of interest. That is why they are not at the concerts.
I mean, young lads would normally give their eye teeth to be surrounded by gorgeous girls of their own age… but not being the object of their attention or affections would be living torture to them and they're not masochists, on the whole.
So, regardless of whether they may (secretly) enjoy the music, they just don't want to put themselves through such a desolate way to spend and evening.
Not to mention the insipid music and the lyrics addressed to "girl", or (girl's name). That is why your male friends conclude this is the target audience for this kind of music and why they consider you unusual for liking it.
Two options: you either give in to peer pressure… and become one of the herd, letting the local trend-setter dictate what to wear, what music to like and so on, in which case you'll grow to hate yourself, in later life, for caving in;
or you extract maximum enjoyment from the things you le at any given moment. Your tastes may change, with the passage of time and you get the satisfaction of knowing, in later life, that you didn't have to give a **** what other people thought of you.
Teasing is inevitable but it's just a way people have of testing you, to see if you are a conformist and respect their authority or independent, in which case they can have endless fun -trying- to annoy you.
By the way, when I use the word 'conformist', this should conjure up imagery of China, North Korea, 1930s Germany and should, in no way be associated with the behaviour of youths in the USA or "the west". No siree, bob.

MEMicster1 - as far as teasing is concerned, teasers will pick on anything they think gets a reaction from their target - and in your case, it's your taste in music.
I am unsure if you are receiving this teasing personally, and if you are, ignore it.
Teasing loses its power without a reaction, so starve the teasers of the reaction, and their teasing becomes impotent, and usually stops quite quickly.
If your attitude is more detached, then I repeat my earlier assertion, you are wasting valuable music enjoyment time fretting about something that is simply not as important as you are making it seem.
Put on some music you like, listen to it, enjoy it.

@Hypognosis & @andy-hughes The only teasing I mostly believe in is that certain kind of music are for girls, because its considered unusual for straight males to listen to. Otherwise, there should be no problem with straight male liking this kind of stuff, and artists I mentioned before (JB & Boy Bands) would have more of a balanced audience.
To tell you the truth, I actually like this some of the songs from both groups (but no where from being a fan of either one). But because not a lot of straight male likes them, it makes wonder if there is something wrong with me liking stuff that doesn't appeal to guys.
(So it's not much of what others think of me. It's the thought of me liking of these kind of artists since no other straight male does).
