By the way, this "someone" was my dear old mummy, she likes to get things wrong and mixed up in her head, so i thought I'd better see if I could confirm her information.
In 'Quotes of the Week' in todays Mail On Sunday:

'What do you get when you put two brothers and two sisters in a band? A big fat melting pot'
Top of the Pops presenter Richard Bacon's introduction for the heavyweight band Magic Numbers. Offended, they refused to perform.
Apparently the quote ended in "...melting pot of talent", so possibly not as offensive as it sounds.
