Its called Fanfare for the common man and it has been played at a lot of events. BBC use it a lot.

Was it by Emerson. Lake & Palmer? Great tune.
No...it's by Aaron Copland....and American composer.
Yes, originally but they made a "rocked up" version of it I think.
As pastafreak advises, the piece was written by Aaron Copeland, but the most famous interperetation is by ELP.

Keith Emerson is fond of Copeland, having used Hoedown to great effect in their live shows.
Another sporting connection...ELP shot the video for 'Fanfare...' in the partly built Montreal Olympic stadium in '76. I seem to remember there was snow everywhere!
Phil Taylor uses it at the start of his walk-on music for every TV darts tournament.

Many people think this soaring work by Copeland to be fairly modern, but he wrote it in 1942. It was used in opening scenes of "Saving Private Ryan"... very appropriately...

I've downloaded it as my 'ring tone'... everyone calls it my slow motion ring...
Here's the ELP version. It's in C, rather than the original Bb.

I think I remember seeing the ELP film on Nationwide. That dates me. :)
Carl Palmer is a friend and he confirmed that the released version was done in the studio in one take - it just clicked, and they never got a better version, so they went with the very first one.
You have 'cool' friends Andy, whilst I have none!
