What about Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard et al? What is all this 'brassed off business'? Oh well, this sad person is off to watch the footy!!
I guess I'd better put the ignorati right - the flugelhorn is pretty well known in the jazz world because many famous trumpeters/trombonists started out playing it, and it's still brought out for solos in a good number of big band performances.

I'm not a brass player, but not for want of it. I love the sound of flugel, trumpet and cornet but just don't get on with it, which is why I stick to saxophone. But I do love listening to jazz, Tootlebug, especially big band jazz. I believe the late, great Don Lusher was something of a flugel player in addition to being a top trombonist.
Miles Davis JJ." Kinda Blue" lives in my car.
Well said Saxy ............. couldn't agree more.
Tootle .......... I play at least two Freddie Hubbard tunes in my band....... and several Miles Davis tunes.
One of my faves on flugel is Rick Braun :o)
