Of course not.

The hunting of bears in North America keeps the numbers at a managable number and actually helps the environment.

It is not illegal, so why should he be banned for something he does that is lawful?

Not 'banned'...replaced.

Glastonbury has always had that 'hippy' tag. What I'm asking is whether Mr Hetfield's hunting and membership of the NRA sits well with that.
The killing of African elephants is rightly criticised. But at least there's money made from ivory.
Killing bears just for the fun of it seems particularly cruel. The bear hunter needs to be told his behaviour is unacceptable to lots of people.

Probably because he has a very small p**** and doing that makes him somehow feel more of a man!
if the festival organisers ignore this campaign, what sanctions are the protesters prepared to bring to bear?

would they threaten to fire-bomb Michael eavis's house, for instance?
Is it fair to lump people with a concern for animals in with the extremists of ALF, people who might consider taking violent action to make a point?
Culling of bears in Alaska

// State wildlife biologists from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game recently killed almost 90 bears and delivered nearly 4 tons of bear meat to residents in eight villages in western Interior Alaska as part of a predator control program designed to increase the number of moose in the area.

The goal of the program was to reduce the number of bears in the area as low as possible, Fish and Game spokeswoman Cathie Harms said. It was the first year of a two-year predator control program approved by the Alaska Board of Game last spring at the request of local residents concerned about low moose numbers.

The program won’t have a permanent effect on the moose population, but it should have a measurable effect for several years, Harms said. The department will conduct moose surveys to monitor the population.

“Within the next year or two we should be able to see an increase in moose numbers,” she said. //

Maybe Metallica could donate some of their fee to saving the baby mooses?
People always have the choice to stay away from the festival or the performance.

It's not a great headline act anyway really is it?
Worthy Farm in Glastonbury is the home of a large dairy herd which of course results in hundreds of baby cows being produced for the veal trade.
Perhaps that is a better reason for not attending the festival?
Yes, if only for the reason that Metallica are mind numbingly monotonous.

I never understand why these hunters (cough) stand over the carcass of their prey like they are some king of hero...you have shot it from a safe distance moron!
Try killing it on a level playing field.
This is my sort of hunting

Exactly. If bears had machine guns and knew how to use them, killing one might be more impressive. As it is, there's nothing to brag about.
I must confess, when I read I read about "bear hunting" at first I thought it was some outlandish sexual practice! I was surprised that the story was about hunting actual bears! Anyway I treat this the same as the fox hunting debate, I don't know enough about it. From what gromit says it does seem that bear control is necessary. I generally abhour any sort of "sport" hunting of animals but I accept it may be necessary in some cases. I don't really give a rats ar5se about the drug taking in field "festival" so I don't really care what racket makers they invite along.

i will not buy salmon after seeing them get beaten up

So ok for Ivory but not for meat then Sandy? Right-oh.

Personally I am with TTT on this. If there is a need to cull then so long as the meat is used, not a problem.

I wonder if those protesting realize the number of moose that are killed by Bears, or is it just that the Bear looks cuddly and the moose has ugly big antlers?
No, they should not find another heading act for that reason to answer you q SP.

They might find a better band for other reasons though!
No, I don't understand how anyone can do it either sp. Legal or not, I could NEVER hunt down and kill such a magnificent beast.
Perhaps but not because of this, it's nothing to do with music.

I saw Metalica do a couple of songs live a few years back, they were brilliant.
Instead of a petition, the great unwashed could just vote with their feet and stay away.
