Was the other laptop using Win dvd * too?

If this is a copied DVD It could be that your laptops dvd drive only reads some types of copied disks.

Thanks, the other Laptop was Win also. The DVD's are "pukka" not pirated and bought in on-line from reputable site e.g Amazon. Can I make the new Laptop's drive read all types of discs?
I think there is a Win dvd 9 available now....

At work we use cyberlink power dvd version 6 and it seems ok.

Or there is a player available through the 'Nero' software called Nero showtime.

Try googling them or looking in your current player for un update option.

Thanks Cockney, both Nero Nd an upgraded Windows Media Player worked well.
Or you could try using VLC media player - which will play just about anything.

Free download, too.....
