what do you call this style of music?

What style of music would Marvin Gaye, Commodores, Electric Light Orchestra etc come under. I thought it might have been smooth jazz but can't seem to find anything. What I'm after is a compilation cd with these or similar artists/music. Can anyone help?

Personally, I wouldn't classify ELO with Marvin Gaye and the Commodores. The former is Rock/Pop and the latter two R&B/Soul.


(That said, there's really only two classifications of music: Good and Bad.)

Marvin Gaye - Tamala Mowtown/soul/ rhythm and blues, not sure about the Commodores, but ELO - rock
