Private Number Plate Transfer

I had a private number plate bought for me for my 30th birthday about a year and a half ago. I now wish to sell my car and put the original number plate back on. However, I didn't put the original number plate the car was registered with on retention - should I have done this? It is only now that I am thinking I probably should have done. Can anyone help? The DVLA website is useless for finding out this info.

The DVLA will allocate a reg number for your vehicle which shows the correct age letter / numbers.

It may be the same one you had before, it may not. It doesn't matter.

no you dont have to put the original on retention, only the cherished plate.
I have had one on 5 different vehicles and each time DVLA automatically put them back on there original reg. no,s. If you have kept the orignal number plates it also saves the hassle of getting new ones made.

The last one I did before my current car went to a different reg, but same letter identifier.
