I don't know, of course, what type of fuses are used in the UK autos, but for the standard US model an inexpensive tool to remove these can be purchased at any auto parts store....

As Clanad says there's a small tool if they are the blade-type fuses about an inch long ?

It's like a very small pair of plastic tweezers. There's often one fixed inside the cover of the fusebox.

You don't say which transit it is. I know most about the Mk2, 78-86. These have the ceramic type fuses, which can be a bit of a b*tch to get out, but needlenose plyer do help! If you have a problem or question about a transit, try the Ford Transit Forum at www.fordtransit.org . It's free to sign up and has boards for technical problems and other questions.
