85 in a 60 zone at night?  Be grateful for 3 points.
There is nothing you can do except pay the fine and get the points. The whole point of the points system is to discourage you from doing it again.
The points will stay on your licence for 3 years.

85 in a 60 zone! dont you think thats a tad stupid? At least have the balls to take your punishment on the chin. Grow up and start driving like an adult.

Wow you guys are harsh! Fine it is too fast but in a 60 zone at night he is not risking bumping into little children out playing etc.
I think there is however little option but to pay - sorry!
cass, it may sound harsh but think of the effects dangerous driving has. Speeding is a social norm, but that doesnt make it any safer. If a dear runs out into the road or whatever driving at 85 you have got no chance at stopping for anything whereas sticking to the speed limit may evade an accident becoming a serious accident. I just think that driving is something to be taken seriously and people should suffer the consequenses of the actions (like this guy) and not whinge about it when the get caught.

gokham - we can all be accused of doing a couple of miles over the speed limit on the Motorway, but doing 25 miles over the top anywhere is asking for trouble.

I don't want to sound patronising, but you are very lucky not to have injured or killed anyone, or even yourself - so be thankful that you got off lightly.

I would accept the points, pay the fine & just be more obsevant the next time you get behind the wheel.

I think what you have done is absolutely disgusting and that you should be grateful for......well, this isn't really the chastise bank.
I hate speeding,but....there may be a way. Check with the copshop (I think they may have to tell you) what device caught you at that speed. A model of laser detector in use by the boys in pink is being reviewed at the moment , since someone just got off when the laser caught him at a 'speed' well over what his car could ever do.
Failing that, you could explain that according to Einstein, speed is all relative, and ask what evidence the officer had that he himself was stationary.....they may cooperate.

You haven't a hope in Hadies of avoiding the points.  Hope you weren't expecting sympathy when you posted your question.  Pay up and take your punishment gratefully that you got off so lightly.

Or......go to court and debate the issue in front of the beak.........the choice is yours.

The scary thing is that if you were 'done' for 85mph, you'd probably be reading 10%ish more on your speedometer - ie you thought you were doing over 90 in a 60 limit.
why would it appear as 90mph?

I got 60 fine & 3 points for doing 38 in a 30 zone - think yourself very lucky indeed!!!

@ Cupra, I dont get what u mean? please explain.

Cheers

What Cupra means is that by law, a speedo has to show either the speed you are doing or slightly more, it must never show less than your current speed. Since accuracy costs money, many (all?) speedos will slightly overestimate your speed, 5mph is common. A police radar on the other hand, has to be bang on accurate. Therefore, if the radar says 85mph, the speedo in the car probably said 90.
My husband recently got clocked doing 46 in a 40 zone somewhere in Warwickshire.  He was given the option of a 60 fine and 3 points, or paying 60 to go go on a 3 hour "speed awareness course".  He has gone for this option, as it means that he will not get points on this occasion, but if he is stopped again for speeding in the county in the next 3 years, he will automatically get points, and not get the option to do the course. I'm not sure how widespread this scheme is, but if it can get people to look at the reasons why they speed, rather than just taking the money and handing out points, then it has to be a good thing.

Thanks, Ralph - I am actually doing 64mph when my speedo shows 70mph (nb this is model and make dependant).

One way of seeing how much your speedo over reads is to follow an HGV on a flat uncongested motorway. Their limiter will be set to a 'true' 56mph - most car speedos will indicate nearer 60mph.

38 in a 30 is far worse and far more dangerous than 85 in a 60.
For one, you're in a place where crashes are more likely. There are more likely to be pedestrians. And your braking distance is way above what it should be.

Cheers Ralph, I had no idea.

Anyway, I hope that after reading all the  on speed. Gokhan, decides to drive a bit more sensibly in the future!!

Sorry about that! must have pushed the wrong button! I was trying to say......... I hope that after reading all of the feedback Gokhan has received re speeding that he realise's the error of his ways and that speeding can only lead to trouble. Not wishing to preach because we have all done it, but not quiet as excessively as that!
The probem with your argument, slimfandango, is that we don't know where the offence was committed - 38 outside a school at 2am is probably not as dangerous as 85mph at 11.30pm past a busy country pub.
Think about it. 30 mph are so designated because they are almost always in built up areas where a kid could run out in front of a car, etc etc. The chances of such a thing happening in a 60 mph zone are very small indeed. So, no, I don't need more information to make my argument.
