my guess is that because Renault's major market is France, they save a few quid by only making one fuel gauge - using the French versions of 'full' and 'empty' which i think, would be 'remplis' for full but not sure what the I could be.

Is the "R" for "r�serve" and the "I" an "L" (for "litres")?
