Opel Astra alternator light coming on and off.

I have an 04 Astra but it has started chugging sometimes and the alternator light goes on and off. A few more people I've chatted to says their alternator light is always going on and off but that nothing seems to be wrong with the cars other than that. Is this a common problem with these types of car?

If you start to get first morning starting problems, get the alternator checked.
