I\'m thinking of buying this car http://inverness.gumtree.com/inverness/67/47450067.html but the mileage is higher than I was thinking of (my ideal scenario was round about 50k). I\'ve got this idea that higher mileages have less effect on a diesel engine but I\'m not really sure why? Can anyone offer advice?

Looks like a decent buy. Well serviced a modern diesel should be good for over 150,000 miles easy. Check to see if the cambelt has been replaced. It, and cambelt pulleys should be replaced at about this mileage. Factor that into the price you pay when you negotiate. Could be around £300 to do.

The only problem with that clio will be the turbo on the 1.9 engine, check in the service history if it has been renewed, they are not that good and can ruin the enine if the seals go.

Cambelt should be renewed every 70,000 miles or every 5 years, so check that aswell.

It does look in good condition though.
my clio 1.5 is great on 65k at min service every 20k only prob these models had was the dodgy bonnet catch make sure its lubed they had a recall on them.

Thanks everyone for some really helpful advice! The cam belt has been replaced, the car has a full service history and has been used for a daily 35 mile commute, hence the mileage. So think I'll go for it! Thanks again answerbankers.
