By coincidence there was a Will Hay film on earlier and his reg was FN 8429, same format so maybe 1930s.

ignore that - you are asking how old the plate is, not the car it is attached to

Go on google, type in HPI, find a cheap service (I think the RAC & AA do it) and get an HPI check done on line. That will tell you the age of the car, when the current number was put on and lots of other useful information.
